Take some time to read these very helpful and interesting posts from around the PF blogosphere!
Frugal Dad explains why it’s important to have an emergency fund. His family had to tap into theirs quite a bit recently and he’s glad they had the money to fall back on. I’ve got a small portion of my emergency fund saved and on hold right now while I pay off debt. Also, why only be frugal at home? He also shows how to be frugal at the office.
Gather Little by Little encourages you to stay the course even if your 401(k) is losing money. In a market like today, investments are bound to drop. But since I’m still young (24) and quite a ways from retirement, I know I should hold out because they’ll probably take a turn for the better in the future. It’s just the way the market tumbles.
Trent from The Simple Dollar shows how he and his wife got onto the same page, financially. I’m glad that my husband and I have always had the same opinion on money matter. He also delves into why he doesn’t regret leaving his 9 to 5 and how to get away from the status quo bias to save some money. Lots of great reading over there this week! At least, a lot that caught my eye!
Leo from Zen Habits talks about a great strategy to get your life organized. Something he refers to as the Life Laundry Day. This is a great idea and I am trying to see how I can incorporate it into my life. Maybe try to do all my cleaning and errands on Mondays? That way I’ve already made my grocery list from the Sunday paper and know what I need to buy from the drugstores to take advantage of sales and rebates. This could work!
David at My Two Dollars shows the drastic differences in cost of living between the town he used to live in, and his new town in New Mexico. You won’t believe some of the differences! He also shows how little steps can lead to the big picture. Everything big has to start somewhere. Even the little steps can lead to a big change.
Being that it’s the middle of summer (wow, summer flies by), here are some tips for frugal traveling brought to you by Uncommon Cents. With a business trip right around the corner (1 week in Chicago for my husband’s job - I’m going with) and our week long vacation to Myrtle Beach shortly thereafter, I’m definitely digging the money saving tips!
Ben from Milk Your Money gives us a look at the 8 worst habits for saving money. I know that there are nights where I go to bed stressing about money and I’ll even get up to try and organize our bills and try to optimize things in a way that work better for us before I feel better and able to go back to bed. Not good!
Lynnae from Being Frugal has a wonderful square foot garden! I’m jealous of the nice looking veggies! This is one reason why I can’t wait to have a house and a backyard to plant our own garden!
Free From Broke gives a few good links to places where you can see if you have unclaimed money. Unfortunately I couldn’t find anything in my name
Kacie from Sense to Save gives great tips on how to save money on maternity wear. Why pay top dollar for clothes that you will only be wearing for (a portion of) nine months? Doesn’t really make sense, now does it? Do it the frugal way and you can still look put together and save some $$$.
Paid Twice from I’ve Paid for This Twice Already gives five great tips to getting back on track when you feel like you’re slipping on your financial goals. This month started out very good for me and then I had a $488 optical bill for an eye exam, year supply of contact, and new glasses (frames and lenses) so I had to charge part of that and take the rest from our vacation fund. Since then, I feel very off balance with how things are going and this month isn’t going to end as good as I hoped. But I won’t give up. And neither should you!
