I’ve stopped buying the Sunday papers for the past month or so. I found that I was buying things I didn’t necessarily need, and then feeling guilty if I didn’t use the coupons I clipped. So for the past month I haven’t bought the Sunday paper and I’ve been shopping without the use of coupons. My main reason for even buying coupons was for personal and household items, not so much groceries (although I did use coupons for some grocery items). But since I’ve changed over to a more fresh produce/fruit and homemade type of diet, using coupons doesn’t really come in handy.
We’ve got a great stockpile of personal care items (especially shampoo and conditioner) and some household items (dish soap, cleaners, air fresheners, etc). I still take advantage of some of the drug store deals each weekend (especially the free after rebate items every month at Rite Aid and Walgreens).
Basically…I was feeling like coupons were tempting me to buy more stuff than I really needed. I’m still building our stockpile here and there, but not like I was when I first started doing the drug store game. I won’t refuse free (or next to free) shampoo or makeup!
Anyone else find that they’re not going as gung ho on stockpiling as they were a few months ago? I just feel like with the way the economy is, it would be wise to not keep stockpiling (as much) if we’ve already got enough to last us a few months (or more in some cases).
Plus, I’ve been spending more on groceries so that I know I have healthy food on hand at all times so I’m not tempted to eat junk food (processed snacks and whatnot). This is a big change for me.
