Well, tomorrow morning we leave for Las Vegas.  A week spent with my brother and his family is in store for us.  Some of you may remember our vacation trouble back in September due to the hurricanes when we were just a few days from flying to Myrtle Beach.  Well, after all that fiasco (and ending up going to Las Vegas then, too) we still had $600 in travel credits left over.

Turns out even though we had travel credits, it costs us a rebooking fee (per person).  That was around $70 each, I think.  After that and the difference in ticket prices, we paid a total of $258 to book our flight.  They really get you on the rebooking fee.  I hate airlines and their fees sometimes.  Seriously.

Buuuut…we don’t have to pay for a hotel!  We’re staying at my brother’s house.  Granted, we are sleeping on an air mattress in my niece’s room, but hey…it’s free!  Plus, I don’t really know my brother all too well.  September was only the second time I had ever seen him.  The first being back in 1996.  (Ok, I apparently knew him when I was a baby, but my parents divorced when I was 2 years old — and he’s from my dad’s first marriage, so really, I dont’ count all of that.)  So staying at his house will give me a chance to get to know my brother, sister-in-law and ONLY niece!

As far as food goes, my brother let me know yesterday that they stocked up on most of what we’ll need for groceries for the week, including  some good steaks!  We had agreed to go in half on groceries while we were there, and just cook at home rather than going out to expensive meals.  We owe him $100 for groceries, which probably seems like a lot for one week…but if you compare it to eating out 2-3 times a day for 2 people, we’re saving quite a bit!

We do plan on going out to eat twice. Once for breakfast a nice diner called Blueberry Hill that we enjoyed last time we were there, and once for dinner at The Pink Taco (a great Mexican restaurant in the Hard Rock Hotel down near the strip).  These are restaurants we don’t have back home, so we want to enjoy them both again.

And entertainment?  We plan to go to the Hoover Damn and do some other sightseeing that doesn’t cost us money! The first night we get there, I’m actually going with my SIL to a “Mom’s movie night” with her mom group.  I guess they all get together at one of the mom’s houses, wear their PJ’s, eat junk food and watch a movie.  On the agenda for Monday night?  Heathers.  I’ve never seen it, so I’m excited!  I’m glad my SIL invited me…despite the fact I’m not a mom! :)

I think we’ll have a good time for very little money.  It’s hubby’s 26th birthday on the 11th (the day we fly home) so the dinner out at The Pink Taco will probably be in celebration of that, plus I guess they stocked their liquor cabinet, so no need to go out drinking!  I’m very excited!

I’ll do a recap of what we actually spent when we get home.  I have $900 saved up (from Ebay sales and other stuff through the month of December!) but I dont’ think we’ll spend very much of that.  I’m hoping to have enough left over to pay for my oral surgery next month and put some into our emergency fund.  So we’ll see how it goes!
